Group Activity: Aug 22

For our first group activity, we're going to compose some lists that will help us think about the implications, or the "point," of the two stories under consideration. Work together in your groups to compose these lists; each list should have at least 8-10 items, but if you can add more that's great.

1. Compose a list of ways in which discovering the body changes / will change Myop. Since the story's narrative time and discourse time both end not long after the discovery, you will have to make some inferences based on what you know about Myop from earlier in the story and what you know about lynching in general.

2. For "Two Portraits," I want you to compose two lists: one list of the ways in which the two Albertas are the same, and one list of the ways they differ. As with your first list, it's best if you can push yourself to make inferences and/or think abstractly.

If composing these lists leads to an interesting conversation, feel free to follow that thread; however, be sure that you devote substantial time to each story. We'll spend about 15 minutes on this group activity.
